Couch to 5K, Week 3 (Finally)
Monday:

Five minutes of warmup walking.
90 Seconds of running, followed by 90 seconds of walking.
Three minutes of running, followed by three minutes of walking.
90 Seconds of running, followed by 90 seconds of walking.
Three minutes of running, followed by three minutes of walking.
Five minutes of cooldown walking.

My ankle felt like pounded meat after this run. On Tuesday, I went to the minor emergency clinic, to make sure I hadn't developed stress fractures or plantar faciitis. Negative on both accounts, but I did learn the difference between anti-fever painkillers and anti-inflammatory painkillers. Picked up a bottle of Aleve and an icepack.

Wednesday:
Five minutes of warmup walking.
90 Seconds of running, followed by 90 seconds of walking.
Three minutes of running, followed by three minutes of walking.
90 Seconds of running, followed by 90 seconds of walking.
Three minutes of running, followed by three minutes of walking.
Five minutes of cooldown walking.

Went a shorter distance this time, probably because of still-healing ankle. However, it felt much better on Thursday, and this morning there's only a little pain. I think I might need new insoles in the running shoes, or better running shoes. Something to think about for next week, when payday comes.

Couch to 5k, Week 2, Day 2 (Wednesday)
Five minutes of warmup walking.
Six repetitions of 90 seconds running, two minutes walking.
Five minutes of cooldown walking.

Still feeling good, although I think my work shoes need better insoles, because my ankles hurt longer than they should. The change in running space has helped a lot, if only because it's a nicer set of scenery than a parking lot.

Couch to 5k, Week 2, Day 1 (Third Time's the Charm)
Five minutes of warmup walking.
Six repetitions of 90 seconds running, two minutes walking.
Five minutes of cooldown walking.

Rather than do my running in the parking lot of my apartment complex, I decided to try out a local walking/running/biking path that's about five minutes' drive from my apartment. It was much better! Much less soreness and pain afterward. I should be able to finally finish Week 2 this week.

Couch to 5k, Week 2, Day 2 (Wednesday)
Five mintues of warmup walking.
Six repetitions of 90 seconds running, two minutes walking.
Five minutes of cooldown walking.

Less distance this time than on Monday. I think I twisted my ankle slightly on the first rep. I was limping this morning. I think the parking lot is not working. I think I may try a different track for Week 3.

Couch to 5K, Week 2, Day 1 (Monday) - redux
Five minutes of warmup walking.
Six repetitions of 90 seconds running, two minutes walking.
Five minutes of cooldown walking.

Sore ankles persist to today, but I think that might be part of the dress shoes. I need to get new insoles for them.

Couch to 5K, Week 2, Day 1 (Monday)
Due to rain and cold last week, Week 2 of the Couch to 5k running program got delayed. We'll be starting it again today, and working on finding backup locations with treadmills in case of cold (rain's not that big of a deal when the temperature is bearable).

Six repetitions of 90 seconds running, two minutes running.
Five minutes of cooldown walking.

The two-day break, combined with the intensified workout, changed the location of the Wall. I ended up hitting it in the third repetition, rather than the sixth. I'm muscling my way through this on willpower, but I hope that it gets easier.

Late update - Couch to 5K, Week 1, Day 3 (Last Friday)
Five minutes of warmup walking.
Eight repetitions of 60 seconds running, 90 seconds walking.
Five minutes of cooldown walking.

(Comes out to be about 2.6 miles, if the Google Maps pedometer is worth anything.)

For anyone still reading this who is curious about the Couch to 5k program, it's a running schedule and support website for going from no activity to a 5k run in about nine weeks. Details are here.

Shin splints that make me feel like I never want to walk again are apparently free with purchase.

Did I mention that I have a two-story apartment? Ouch.

My body hates me right now. But that's okay; I hate it right back.

So far, so good....
